New Years Resolutions

Well I defiantely have a few! I thought that I would share them with you all so that someone could hold me accountable for them, lol.

1. Spend less, save more! This includes getting rid of some debt and just learning to live more frugaly.
2. drinking no more than 1 soda a day. I drink diet coke already because of my whole teeth obsession thing, but even those can be bad if ya drink too many!
3. last but not least, I am learning to sew. I have already started and I hope to continue to get better at it this year.

With that, I hope that all of my faithful readers ( both of you) have a great new year!

Oh how could I forget!

We have a new nephew! I dont know a lot of details about time of birth ect ect, but my brother and his wife welcomed Lucas Allen Robertson today weighing 8 pounds and 5 ounces. COngrats to both of you!

The Last Minute Toy Store

Those of you who are from middle Tennesse may have heard of the last minute toy store that the 61st Avenue United Methodist Church runs to help supply families in need with toys for Christmas. Our church has done quite a bit to help out with this project and today Brian, Kristen, and myself volunteered a few hours of our time to help out. I dont even think I can put into words the joy that this experience has brought to me, not only from volunteering myself but from seeing how much Kristen gained from it. The church gives tickets to around 325 families a day for 4 days. These folks start lining up sometimes in the middle of the night. They then must come back later in the day to "shop". They are given 3 toys per child, a piece of fruit, and a candy cane. I cannot even imagine being in their shoes, but it sure was a blessing for us to be a part of this event.

Oh and did I mention how proud I am of Kristen for sticking it out for 5 hours handing out coloring books? We estimated that we handed out close to 4000 of them this afternoon!

Breakfast with Santa

Yesterday the kiddos and I loaded up and went to see Santa at our church. Alot of folks took advantage of this oppurtunity as there were close to 150 people there. Not were there pictures with Santa but we got to have breakfast with the big man and he told stories. Brian wanted nothing to do with Santa, hence my holding him in the picture and the terrified look on his face. Kristen told me before we left that she did not want her picture taken with Santa, but I told her she would or else. I know it may be torture for her at 10, but I am a Momma and I need all of my kids in the picture so Kristen if you are reading this you will still have your picture with santa when you are 30 if thats what I want! Why, you ask? Because I said so!
So while the girls were listening to story time, what in the world could Brian be doing but running around with an offering bucket on his head! Imagine my suprise when I saw this, but as any other good mother does I grabbed my camera and took a picture before making him take it off.

Kennedy's 3rd birthday party

Last weekend I took Hannah and Little Brian to Kennedy's 3rd birthday party. For those of you who don't know her, her Mommy and I met when we were 15 and have been very close friends ever since. Kennedys grandmother made the fabulous Dora cake. ( I wonder if she can do Spiderman, lol?)

A new baby girl!

Okay so I just checked Rachel's blog and Alaina Claire was born via c-section at 7:49 this morning weighing 7 pounds 15.5 ounces. Just like her brothers she has a head full of hair. For those of you that don't know Rachel, she is my cousin on my husbands side. Alaina Claire is #3 for her. She is also the proud Momma to 2 boys. Congrats James, Rachel, Jake, and Will on your new baby girl! We love you guys!

My work Christmas party

The first one is Amanda and myself. Yes I think I took this and cut my self half out of it. The second one is Missy, Emily, me, and Amanda after a few drinks. I think this was probably the best party we have ever had. We stayed out way to late and had a bit much to drink but it only happens once a year so we try to do it right, lol.

Look at what I whipped up tonight!

I was tired of not having any window treatments in my den so I made these. I whipped them up in about 1 hour. They are not fancy but I dont think they are bad for my first ones. Now only about 20 more windows to go!

We have a slide in our living room!

So Brian was out working and drove passed a consignment shop and they had one of those little tikes slides out front. Well he bought it and it is in our living room now. Little Brian thinks it is the greatest thing EVER! He played for 2 hours straight the first night. Yesterday I was changing his diaper and he thought it would be funny to run away before I got the new diaper on his bottom. I am sure you all know the first thing that caught his eye was the big honkin slide in the middle of the living room.

* Note to the men reading you may want to stop now as things are about to get ugly.

So does everyone know what happens to a naked booty when ti goes down a plastic slide? Not to mention the dangling boy parts. Yep, they dont slide very well. As a matter of fact as soon as he hopped on to go down he got stuck. Well at 2 years old you dont give up so easily so he tried again and only moved a few inches. Then he looked at me and said "MOmmy, Slide hurts!"

So the moral of this story is dont go down the slide with no clothes on!

whats that? Oh you want to see pictures!

Daddy took Brian out to play and taught him how to ride his four wheeler. Unfortunately Brian thinks it is funny to run into things like say our cars!
Why does my child have to stand an inch from the tv? Maybe he needs glasses. Note to self* call eye doctor.
Nope this was no ordinary bath. There was no soap here, just pure clean fun!

What was it I talked about in my last post?!?

Oh yeah, I talked about how lucky we have been lately with our kids not getting sick. Well let me tell you that has come back to bite me in the butt! Little Brian had a couple of seizures this morning that were different than the febrile seizures he has had in the past. I took him to the doctor and they are going to schedule him for an MRI and to see a neurologist before Christmas. In the meantime we just have to wait and see if he has anymore seizures. So everyone just please pray that he will be okay!

And so it begins...

We have been pretty lucky lately as far as the kids getting sick. Little Brian has been doing great the last several months. But alas, all good things must come to an end. However it isnt Brian that is sick this time. It is Kristen. She went to a slumber party last night and called this morning to tell me that she did not feel good so I hurried off to pick her up. Poor thing has a headache from you know where and can't hold anything down. I brought her home and put her to bed so hopefully she will feel better tomorrow. Now I am off to clean the you know what out of my car! Anybody care to help, lol?

Happy Birthday Honey!

Today is my husbands birthday. Kristen made him a card that read "Happy Birthday Daddy. Born 1976 and now look at you!"

Pretty funny stuff!

Some fall photos

Got the camera out today and took a few pictures. I am not through editing all of them so I may post more in the next few days. The first one I thought was going to be pretty good until I uploaded it on the computer and realized Hannah was making fishy lips. I think it is impossible to get a good picture of all 3 of the kids together. See what you have to look forward to Rachel! Ha!

Another fun day at the park!

Tiffiney and Kennedy came over today after church, well actually they were here in our house playing with our toys when we got home, lol. We decided to take the kids to the park before it started raining and I think they had a great time.

Tiffiney wanted her turn at the slide also!

Who is this kid?

For those of you who have met Kristen and seen the "shy" side, this is what we see at home.

Little boys and baby showers

So what do little boys do when they are forced to go to baby showers? Well Brian took Hudson's toy and played for all of 5 minutes in the middle of the floor. Boy was he upset when Hudson had to go home and take his toy, lol.

This is Brian every five minutes. He was constantly begging for one more "niny" or candy for those who dont speak his language.

And then we have Hudson who was begging for someone to take his picture so here it is. I posted this one for Kim incase she wanted it :)

My Water Broke! lol

These are pictures from a game we played at Rachels baby shower this weekend. I am a little dissapointed in my pictures but I am sure that you all can see the ice baby before and after he melted. The object of this game was to get your baby floating freely in the cup without putting it near your mouth and then be the first to yell "My water broke".

So after a while I put my baby down and this is what happened. Yep, my baby boy who was attending his first baby shower drank the melted water from the ice baby with the baby still in the cup!

Needless to say fun was had by all!

Kinda , Sorta Faith

I have copied and pasted the following from the weekly email that I get from church. David Friedli is an associate pastor there and he wrote this. Our service sunday also followed the same pattern. Have you ever sat in church and had a feeling they were directing the message toward you? I definately did sunday so I thought I would share.

"This Sunday we are going to talk about a guy who had a "Kinda, Sorta Faith”. You know the kind of faith I'm talking about. It's that “I’ll Talk" and "Maybe I'll Walk" kind of faith. The kind of faith where you say, "Yeah, I'll get out of the boat and walk on water with you, Jesus." But as you’re stepping out of the boat, you reach for a life jacket, snorkel, flippers and ask if the water is cold. That's the "Kinda, Sorta Faith" I'm talking about. The kind of faith that says, I'm going to start my walk with Jesus, but I think I'll take a cab. The "Kinda, Sorta" faith that might look good hanging in an art gallery, but you wouldn't hang it on "The Cross”.

Have you ever prayed for a miracle in your life, but prayed like Jesus couldn't/wouldn't do it? I mean, you know He can do it but you wonder if He will. Or maybe you want to believe, but you just don't have the faith right now. You want to believe, but you're just not sure you can. If you can picture yourself in this scenario, you need to be here Sunday.

In James 2:14 we get a good description of "Kinda, Sorta Faith”. It says, "What good is it, if you say you have faith but don't show it by your actions?" After all the miracles Peter saw with his own eyes, he denied knowing Christ three times that fateful night. He kinda, sorta chickened out. His actions showed his faith that night. When things got thick, Peter thinned out. Although Peter's faith did turn around (he eventually died for Christ while spreading the Good News) at one time, he had that kinda, sorta faith that we can all relate to. The bible is full of people with that kinda, sorta faith, but it also has people whose faith never wavered. I personally didn't know any of those kinds of people, but I'm going to tell you about someone I did know.

I want to tell you a story about faith where the words "Kinda" and "Sorta" won't apply. I had a sister named Utizann; we called her Pud. With a name like that, you can understand why we called her Pud. My sister was one of the sweetest, kindness, calmest persons I've ever known. She just went with the flow. Her heart was as big as the love she had for her two children. She was always a good person, but when she turned her life over to Christ, I got to wittiness a faith that most of us just read about.

My sister got a divorce in her early forties after an abusive marriage. She walked out leaving behind everything they had worked for. And trust me, she left behind a lot. She had only her clothes and her special needs daughter, who at the time was 21 years old. They moved into an apartment. She also had a son, who was married and on his own at the time. Not long after she started her new life, she discovered a lump in one of her breasts. She went to the doctor and had it removed, and of course, it was cancerous. During all the chemo and radiation she still continued to work and take care of her daughter, Cindy. I never heard my sister say, "Why me Lord?" I did hear my sister say that God would see her and Cindy through the storms of life. Her faith never wavered.

I want to fast forward eight years from the time they removed the lump until the day she went home to be with her Father. I do want you to know that during those eight years, my sister prayed a lot of prayers on Cindy's behalf. I also want to share my sister's faith with you. The last time I saw my sister alive was about 10 hours before she went Home. She was struggling to breathe before the medicine eased her struggle. I'll never forget what she said to my mother before the medicine took effect. "I'm ready to go Mamma, and God will watch over Cindy."

My sister had lived with our mother for the last six years of her life. On the day my sister died, my mother and I were straightening up her room. There was a journal on her night stand next to her bed. I picked it up and began to read some of her entries. They all ended asking God to watch over Cindy and her son Rob. As I continued to read her journal, I think my sister knew her time on earth was coming to an end. She was trusting God to watch over and take care of Cindy in a special way. It was obvious as I continued to read her precious thoughts. She didn't "Kinda, Sorta" ask God to take care of Cindy. She didn't "Kinda, Sorta" have faith that God would answer her prayers in her journal. She believed it, and she claimed it.

It's been almost 12 years since my sister died. I have some good news and some bad news I want to share with you. The good news is that Cindy has now been happily married for over seven years. She has a regular job at Krogers in Bellevue. She loves the church that she and Jim attend, and God continues to bless them. My sister’s son, Rob, is happily married, has a good job, and attends church regularly. He is also a Vanderbilt fan. But there is some bad news that I have to tell you. Cindy, Rob, and I don't "Kinda, Sorta" miss Pud. We miss her like the faith that she had in her Jesus. We miss her completely and totally.

This Sunday bring your "Kinda, Sorta" faith to church with you. Think about what do you need God to do in your life? You'll get an opportunity to trade that kinda faith in, for the "I Am with You Completely and Totally" kinda faith. This is going to be great, and you don't want to miss it."

Fun with Autumn leaves!

This is the tree that created most of the "fun"!
Yesterday the kids had a fun time piling leaves and playing in them. Sadly this only makes up a small amount of the leaves in our yard, lol. Kristen and Hannah did manage to fill 8 trash bags after playing!

A quick brag on my kiddos!

Monday was report card day and I am happy to report that Kristen made A/B honor roll and Hannah made straight As!

Let's talk

I took the kids to eat the other night without Dad. We were all sitting enjoying our food and I thought it would be the perfect opputunity to discuss their new "chores for life". This is where I tell them what chores I have chosen for them to do forever or until I change my mind. The point of this new system is to eliminate an argument before it starts over whose turn it is to help with the kitchen clean up or whose turn it is to clean the play room. My plan was carefully thought out. I wanted to start off with one big chore each. Kristen would forever and ever be responsible for loading and unloading the dishwasher each night and Hannah would forever and ever be in charge of making sure the playroom was clean before bed each night. So this is how the conversation went down.

Mom: Hey girls I think this would be a good time to talk about something.

Kristen: Oh really, What are we gonna talk about?

Hannah: Puberty?

Mom: Not exactly what I had in mind. By the way, do you know about puberty?

Hannah: No not really.

Mom: Do we need to talk about it?

Hannah: No

Talk about people stopping what they were doing when my 8 year old pipes out with that one! So we did end up talking about chores and I am happy to say that I havent touched the dishwasher in days. It may sound cruel but I am a firm believer in making the kids help out. When Little Brian gets older he will have chores for life also.

I am so proud of this girl!

This is my sister Cindy. Some of you in the Cart fam may remember her as the flower girl in our wedding some 10 years ago. I really just want you all to know how proud I am of her and the person she has grown to be. Our family life growing up has not been an ideal one. To say that our parents did not get along is a huge understatement. I have always felt that Cindy never really had parents that she could talk to so I tried to listen to her when she needed me to be there. I am just very proud that she is overcoming her childhood and not letting it get the best of her. So many people do. Cindy, I love you and I will always be here for you when you need me. I wish nothing but happiness for you and Paul in the future!

"Love" in the eyes of a 2 year old!

Do you see this sweet face? I have been working since the day he was born trying to teach him to say "I Love You". I dont think it is too much to ask. I tell him all the time, at least 100,000,000,000 times a day that I love him in hopes that I will get an "I love you too, Mama" back. But alas, he loves something else more. Something that makes him say that four letter "L" word with no problem. He was at the babysitters and it was treat time and as she handed him his treat he looked at it and said "I love cookies". What?! Cookies?! I guess I should be happy that he comprehends the meaning of the word, lol.

Thankful Thursday

Okay I know that there is at least one or two people who may read this today so please comment and tell me what you are thankful for today!

I am thankful for everyone in my house being well today. Now with that said someone will be sick by tonight, lol.
I am thankful for the oppurtunity to help people gain their smiles back. For those of you who dont know, I work in a dental office and there is nothing like seeing someone smile for the first time and be happy with it.
I am thankful for all of my wonderful friends!

My kids and the internet

I was just checking my email and noticed I had several new emails in my box. I get so many because I have Kristen and Hannahs email accounts set up so that a copy of their incoming messages get sent to me also. They know it is like that and have no problem with it right now, lol. Now dont get me wrong, I do trust my girls when it comes to surfing the web, but I am a little overprotective. At 8 and 10, I am really suprised at what they are sending to each other though. I have always heard that this is the age when little girls get "mean", but I have not seen that yet. Hannah has her moments but it is mainly targeting Kristen. For those who are curious, they mostly plan sleepovers and forward harmless funnies. I do also keep track of the sites they visit and my girls have once again made me proud. So to wrap up another session of rambling, the internet is going to play a big part in our childrens future wether we like it or not. We just have to make sure that we teach them how to be responsible with it. Oh and having our computer in the den helps too! ;)

A few things I have learned recently

Over the last few weeks I have been making more time to do some things that I love doing. You may not believe this, but as a result of making time for myself, my house and family are both running much smoother. Its an easy concept really. If you make time for the things you enjoy then you don't get burn out doing your every day routines. So what have I been doing you ask?

Well I have been dabbling in photography a bit for a while now. Also I am learning more about painting with acrylics and various crafts in general. I am becoming quite the little Martha Stewart if you ask me, just kidding.

Oh and need I mention that I am have started menu planning? Talk about making life easier! I am doing one week at a time right now but maybe in the future I will try and do two. Kristen and I are even going to spend part of Monday getting some of the prep work for the weeks meals done ahead.

Well enough rambling for today!

Friday, October 5, 2007

Wow, what a productive morning!

So I was up early because even though I did not have to go to work Little Brian had other plans, lol. We all got up and had breakfast. After a bit of cleaning, I loaded all 3 of them into the car to run errands. Yes I am a little crazy but I wanted to get some stuff done. We took the trash to the drop off and then we went to Walmart. There we dropped the car off to get the oil changed, had lunch at Mickey Ds (we have one in the Walmart) and did our grocery shopping for the next two weeks. We had one of those big carts, you know the kind that holds 20 kids becaus e my 2 year old doesnt like the regular cart. Let me tell you that pushing a kid, 2weeks of food, and keeping up with the girls is a workout. After a quick trip to the feed supply place to get dog food we are home and done with our weekend errands. Now on to the mounds of laundry that are screaming at me to wash them!

Update time..

Okay so it has been a bit since I posted a new blog so here is a quick family update. Hannah is officially 8 years old! Her birthday was the 21st.

Kristen and Little Brian are doing well. Nothing major to report there which if you know us that is good, lol.

Brian and I are also good. Just working hard. I went to the orthodontist tuesday for a consultation and had braces put on my lower teeth this morning! Yes they are metal and I will have them for close to a year but they dont show much when I talk so that is good.

I will try to get some pictures up later!

A dog named Biscuit

Little Brian was at the babysitter's house yesterday and she told him that a friend of hers got a new dog and its name was Biscuit. Little Brian was looking out the front door when the friend was walking Biscuit and the conversation between him and the Mrs. Hodge went a little like this.

M.H- "Look Brian, there is Biscuit"
B-starts fussing and says "Nooooo"
M.H- "What is wrong B, she is just walking Biscuit."
B- getting even madder, "Noooooooooo"
M.H- turning to pick him up while he is throwing a full on fit now, "what is wrong with you, B?'
B- Finally stops crying long enough to explain. "Not a Biscuit, A dog!"

Hahaha, he is too smart!

Silly Kids!

Brian got the spatula I was using to ice a cake off of the counter and decided to help himself. Wow, he is getting tall!

I came in the den this morning to find Hannah playing with Daddy's boots. Little Brian does this all the time but I thought Hannah had out grown this phase, lol.

Fun at Dragon Park!

Little Brian and I met up with Rachael and her boys to play at the park this morning. Brian must have been one sleepy boy because he really didn't play too much. I only have a few pictures because the batteries in my camera died. Guess we will have to take more next time.

Rachael, Brian is acting like his normal loud self again so he must have needed to sleep in a little longer, lol.

Fun at the Dentist, Ha!

As most of the 2 or 3 people who will actually read this know I work at a dental office. However when it comes to taking my 3 kids in for an appointment I have the same fears as any other mother. On our way in this morning I made sure to tell them that they better behave or else. I asked them if they knew what the "or else" was and they said yes even though I myself wasnt quite sure what it would be. So they come in this morning and the girls get their teeth cleaned while Brian plays in the waiting room. He is only here to show off his smile to the dentist and get a new toy from the toy box, which I have to say he did fantastic. Hannah did great and did not have any cavities. Kristen did not get the good news that the other two got. She had a baby tooth that was getting loose and had gotten infected. She knew what that meant and she was not happy. So after sending the other two back to the baby sitters house, Kristen got to stay and have her tooth pulled. Because of my career choice I had to stay in the room and assist with this procedure. All I have to say is there is nothing fun about watching your child get a tooth pulled by the dentist. I work for a great dentist who is very gentle but it still is a very scary thing for a child to go through and unfortunately this was the second time my baby has had this happen. Why do these teeth keep getting infected when they are getting loose? I really don't know , but hopefully this will be the last. SO that about sums up my first time having all three of my kids at the dentist at the same time.

Monday, September 3, 2007

feeling very creative

So I painted a picture to go in Little Brians room today. I also did a little scrapbooking and I am thinking about taking the kiddos to the park so I can take some photos! Man, I am on a roll today! Oh and I am working on another "wall art" project for Brians room. Those of you who have been to my house know that his room has been a little neglected, lol. So I will try and post some pics of my accomplishments later!

Updated to add a picture.

The Maiden Blog!

Okay, so I am new at this, but after checking out Rachel's blog for so long I figured it would be fun to start one for our house. So to start our family consists of 6 members. Brian( a.k.a Daddy), myself( a.k.a Momma), Kristen, Hannah, Brian Jr, and Anna, our dog. There is always something exciting going on around our house so stay tuned!
